The leaky homes crisis in New Zealand has been widely publicised, so most people have an idea in their mind of what a typical ‘leaky’ home might look like, and with that comes a stigma towards buying, or admiring them.
The Herald Island House was suffering from this stigma as its owners tried to sell it. Despite not having any ‘leaky’ issues, its plaster cladding was making it unattractive to buyers. The team were approached to revamp the exterior, giving the home a more traditional look. The plaster cladding was replaced with timber weatherboards, roof parapets were removed and the roof was expanded out to allow for better weather protection.
Situated on the beautiful Herald Island, the new design maximises incredible views out towards the water and internal improvements added to the breath of fresh air the house needed.
The new look of the property was successful – it increased the market value significantly and it was sold successfully.
