This Ponsonby residence was unique for the team, in that the client wanted to remediate damage, but keep the home looking as similar as possible.
A flat roof and complicated junctions on the façade had allowed rain to get into the interior spaces of the building, causing damage. Given the brief of making the remediated home look no different, the challenge was to use similar materials, but ensure they did not have the same issues. The same cladding - fibre cement and aluminium – was used, but there was a focus on careful detailing of junctions, redesigning them to improve their effectiveness.
Subtle adjustments were made to roof falls and overhangs, to give extra protection to the building, but maintaining the feel of the original design.
