In the heart of Takapuna, three spacious homes had been built in the same style, utilising the same inadequate materials and complicated joinery. All three were suffering from typical signs of weathertightness problems, including plaster cladding and roof forms that did not protect that cladding from the rain.
The team’s solution was to remove the parapets from the roof, increasing the falls and eaves in order to provide more protection from the elements. The plaster cladding was replaced with timber weatherboards and light-weight concrete cladding, retaining the original look and feel of the homes
