These 10 units were suffering extensive damage due to issues of weather tightness, and upon receiving analysis and costings for recladding and structural upgrades, a decision was made to rebuild anew. It was a unique opportunity to redesign the spaces, injecting new life into them.
The site is in Auckland’s Parnell, and the brief was to create a development that takes advantage of the majestic mature oak trees and views of the historical landmarks - the Holy Trinity Cathedral and the Auckland Museum, while allowing the units to be light and airy. A contemporary French Provincial theme was incorporated, and care was taken to maximise natural light and fresh air.
Enclosing balconies in the upper levels, converting them to an internal deck system, created larger bedrooms and an increased floor area. Changing the form of the rooves allowed for increased ceiling heights on the top levels.
These design changes significantly added value to each property, and the carefully considered, brand new finishings throughout are a testament to the team’s eye for detail. The Oaks is now a community of contemporary homes in a prime location, with fresh interiors flowing seamlessly out to the surrounding nature and views.
